Jess is a personal trainer, nutrition coach and instructor at Ride Indoor Cycling. She believes mental health is as important as physical health, which is why when she also allows herself indulgences she enjoys - like wine and cheese- and makes time for self-care with massages and acupuncture.
What's your daily diet like?
Breakfast is usually egg whites with avocado and tomato and a slice of Ezekiel bread. Lunch and dinner is typically chicken or salmon with veggies and some rice, pasta, or potatoes. I like a Perfect Bar and a Clean Cause Yerba Mate as a mid afternoon snack. I also use liquid chlorophyll in my water - drinking as much as a gallon of water a day.
How did you first get interested in fitness?
I grew up being active and started going to Jazzercise classes with my mom as a kid. From there, I took all kinds of group classes from Step aerobics to CrossFit! I love the group fitness dynamic.
What are some of your favorite songs/artists to listen to when getting psyched up for a workout?
I love strong women and strong beats, so it’s a lot of Beyonce, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj in addition to house, trap, and hip hop music.
What are your top health and wellness goals for 2019? Any advice for others trying to set some of their own?
I definitely want to focus on realistic goals and expectations for myself and my clients keeping in mind that health and wellness is more than having a fit body - that’s relatively easy to achieve. Having a healthy mindset and appreciation for your health and fitness is most important while also making enjoying your life a priority. Because what’s the point in having a rock hard body if you have to sacrifice having fun? There is room in our lives to have it all. There is a balance in having a full, happy life and I hope to help my clients and myself achieve it! My advice for people setting goals this year is to focus on happiness and harmony. The outside reflects what’s going on inside and how we feel about ourselves. When you love yourself and are happy, you look and feel your best.
