Mercedes, or “Mo” as most people call her, worked as a sports reporter prior to pursuing her greatest passion; fitness. Now, she’s an instructor at Rise Nation and Barry’s Bootcamp, where she blasts jams and most importantly, helps people realize they are unstoppable.
What's your daily diet like?
During the week I usually do intermittent fasting. When I wake up in the mornings I'm usually not ready to eat yet so by fasting I give my body a break from processing food which keeps my energy up! I don't drink caffeine so I need every little bit of help I can get for those early morning wakeup calls.
Do you have a favorite workout?
Luckily, my two favorite workouts are the formats I teach. All I need to be happy is a versaclimber, a Woodway treadmill and a set of dumbbells!
How did you first get interested in fitness?
I've been active all my life. I was a competitive figure skater and cheerleader growing up so I thrive on pushing my body to see what it's capable of accomplishing.
What's your superfood?
I can't function without bananas.
What are your top health and wellness goals for 2019? Any advice for others trying to set some of their own?
My wellness goal is always to just be better. Lifestyle changes are hard. I never recommend people overhaul every aspect of their life at once because when people do that I always see they focus on the negatives and sacrifices.. i.e. what they're missing out on now. Instead, change one thing-- like maybe get more sleep. That in turn will help you be more productive and you'll have higher energy to reach another goal you might have. It's a domino effect that can lead to a better, healthier life.
